Tim Knight, vice president of organizational culture at Isakson Living, recently appeared on Cultivating Care to discuss how member stories help create a family-like environment, especially in memory care. Tim shares his path into care after a car accident at 17 led him from a CNA class to nursing school, eventually becoming a director of nursing before shifting to culture change work in Maine and moving to Atlanta in 2017 to join Isakson Living.
He describes his passion for building “home,” being known through relationship-based care, and supporting people living with dementia. Tim also explains how nature and gardening inform nurturing care, why organizational culture requires constant attention, and how Isakson’s three-day orientation— including two days of SPIRIT training—supports purpose, values alignment, and lower turnover. He also reflects on boundaries, recharging outdoors and at the beach, giving grace, and reducing judgment.
