Croquet on the Lawn at PHP

Join the Peachtree Hills Place Wicket Club

Envision yourself standing on perfectly trimmed grass on a sunny day. A light breeze brings you the scent of flowers. You are waiting for your friends to arrive for your weekly game of croquet on the most exquisite court in Georgia. A new friend is playing today for the first time, and you look forward to showing her the “ropes” of the game. Hard to believe that you were new at this not too long ago, but now you feel like a seasoned pro! Since moving to Peachtree Hills Place and starting croquet, your social circle has expanded and you’re feeling more physically fit than you have in years.

Whether you’re looking for competition or just friendly fun, you’ll find it on the lawns in the Central Courtyard at Peachtree Hills Place. Inspired by English country garden designs, the Courtyard lawns are manicured for two regulation-sized croquet courts. Open exclusively to members and their guests, the manicured greens are the perfect place for lawn sports and socializing. The Peachtree Hills Place Wicket Club will be an official member of the prestigious United States Croquet Association (USCA) – the governing body of the sport in the United States.

Participate in the game as a player or watch from the sidelines while enjoying a cocktail. The Central Courtyard at PHP is the place to be!

“How do I play?”

The game uses wooden balls and a mallet with either two or four participants. The goal is to hit the ball in a specific order, through wire wickets and into stakes in the ground. The first player to score the designated number of points wins.

“What skills are needed to play?”

Here at Peachtree Hills Place we see all skill levels on the courts and experienced players are available to help beginners get started. With the most magnificent court in Georgia and the highest quality equipment available, no expense has been spared to give you the ultimate croquet playing experience.

“What should I wear?”

Serious croquet enthusiasts traditionally wear all white with flat soled shoes (white, of course) and a hat to deflect the sun. Planning on sipping a cold drink on the sidelines? Throw on a white dress and join the fun.

“What about the game’s history?”

To really impress the competition, you should know a thing or two about the history of croquet. The game originated in Ireland and eventually moved to England where it became a popular pastime of the English elite in the 1860’s. The sport finally made its way to the U.S. in the 1930’s and saw a resurgence in popularity in the 1970’s.
